I happen to prefer the uniform appearance of door and sidelights painted the same, but many here like the sidelights to match the trim.

I think you will like the all black it is just a big change . IMO all the trim and side lights should be the same as the door for a much nicer look

the trim on the windows is white, keep the door trim white.

The above image is a nice middle way; the door and sidelights are a unit and the trim is consistent with the rest of the house.

For a classic Colonial home, I always choose a 6-panel door with sidelights. The door is painted a color to match or contrast with shutters, and the sidelights are the same color as the trim.

I prefer the trim and sidelights match your window trim. You can then paint the door to match your shutters or a contrasting color ( ie cherry red, mauve, terra cotta……..

I'd keep the white trim you have around the door and sidelights, and take the door itself black. The white frame is what softens it. The black shutters already match, so that's plenty of black for a brick colonial. A black door with white trim around it looks welcoming, not harsh.

I like the example from Lyn with the white door trim. I also like the 6 lite door since it mimics your windows.

Agree with @marhop comment about trim and sidelights.

I don't expect you to change the shutters, but shiny vinyl, attached to the siding, is not doing your home justice. It is expensive to replace, I know, and if you can't do that, maybe just remove them. Faux anything just doesn't work.

Colonial homes never had black windows and trim unless they had dark siding. But if you want to go against tradition, go for the current trend, no matter how inappropriate it looks.
