Doubtful, burning the yard as a maintenance procedure isn't uncommon here. Where I live is called "the wiregrass area" of Alabama.

How big of an area are you trying to clear of it?

Only about 4-5000 square feet of it. I was going to spray it with an herbicide to kill and dry it out, then burn it hoping that the seeds and rhizomes would be destroyed in the process. I think if I do that, the good grass can begin to spread and then I can just spot treat as necessary. But if the rhizomes all start to come back with vigor at the same time, I will have to spray again. And again, and again until they are gone. I really hope burning does the trick.

I found some pretty good information. Basically the rhizomes will survive but I think I am going to burn it anyway and then just spot treat where needed. Hopefully it will only take one spring to get it under control.
