Bella, generally, plants will do better in the ground than in a pot. Think about it...that pot is that plant's whole world as far as water and nutrients..and just plain room for roots to grow are concerned. And always look for buds. Leaves come and go, leaves get chewed on, wind-torn, blasted by a too-hot sun.....but the future is in the buds. If it has healthy-well-set buds, it's ready to grow.

my peach looks like heck too and it is in the ground. keep in mind that peaches want to go dormant this time of year even if it is a florida peach.

Exactly, Laura. Take care to not place too much emphasis on end-of-season foliage conditions. Honestly, if those leaves were unblemished at this point in the year, I'd be very suspicious of, among other possibilities, an overly heavy hand when it comes to doling out pesticides. Leaves, while extremely important to the plant and the producers of food for that plant, are expendable. That's the beauty of it. To "treat" for these conditions is one species of madness, I think. All of the future is in the buds. Good, well-developed buds-no problems.

Thanks everyone. I don't normally use a lot of pesticides and haven't put any on this tree. I didn't think about it going dormant, but that makes sense..

Hi Bella

Fall is a good time to plant peach trees in the ground before the heat sets in. I have 3 low chill varieties and they are good producers, only use organics on the edibles and if needed I use horticultural oil on the fruit trees.

Here is how my peaches look today, this one was planted last fall

And the other 2 were planted few years back, I trimmed them a couple of weeks ago...

You are welcome Bella and yes they do best in full sun. The recent one is on the eastern side and the other two on the south side of the house. My neighbor also have 2 very productive peach trees on the west side of his house.
