Friday nights

Friday night is my favorite night of the week. Something about the weekend stretched out before us just makes me happy.

Our cleaning lady comes on Fridays, so I come home to a clean house. I cook 6 nights a week, but Friday it is DH's job to get take out. DH and I have a glass of wine. There are no emails to answer, no pressing chores, nothing to do except eat Chinese food and enjoy our family. We talk about what we may do during the weekend and what our weeks were like over hot and sour soup and teriyaki chicken sticks (kids' fave!). We get down on the floor and play without thinking of doing laundry or dishes.

Then we put the kids to bed (what I'm doing as I write) and DH and I get some much needed alone time.

Do you do anything special for Friday night? What's your Friday night ritual?

I almost always wake up in a good mood on Fridays, because it signals the last day of an inevitably busy workweek and the weekend will soon be stretching out before me. I love the weekends, especially now that we have a new home and new outlying surroundings to enjoy. We usually get out some on Saturday and/or Sunday -- errands, shopping, church, family get-together, but we are home most Friday nights. We just enjoy lounging around and watching tv or a movie, reading, or as I'm doing tonight - knitting.

Friday nights used to be for going out and having a few beers. I can't think of anything I'd rather do less than that at this point in my life. Home, with the beings I love and the things I enjoy surrounding me. That's the "good life" as far as I'm concerned.

I'd love to start the weekend that way. My friend's DH adopted her Shabbat, and embraces it by coming home "on time", he finds the prayers and candle ritual to be a not-so-subtle hint to put the cares aside and embrace family and life for a day...or two. There's not a lot of difference between challah bread and sweet-and-sour soup, when it comes to family rituals :)

I thought by the time my kids are in high school that I'd get a break M-F. But they need more food (really--they EAT a lot!) and their high school and private athletic club demands are greater now than in the past. I find myself driving to and from as much now as I did in prior years. But most obligations do not take place on Friday evenings. Friday means that I don't have to check my pantry for supplies for the next day's lunches and I'm not racing to the high school to pick up a kid. I love Fridays. I know I'll someday miss the hectic schedule of my week, but for now, I appreciate the peace of Friday.

Your kids must be young. Cherish these nights--soon they will be the busiest with kid activities and social engagements around those activities. We are empty nesters and attempted a "date night". It took only a few weeks to devolve into the weekly grocery trip.

Sounds like fun, Buttternut! My Friday night was spent with my beloved 12 year old grandson (who, I heard him tell his "girlfriend" over the phone, stays with me every Friday, though he doesn't). I fixed his favorite, crab legs, and we spent the evening playing Apple-to-Apple and Monopoly, my defense against cell phone useage. I cherish every minute I spend with him.

Out to dinner at a different restaurant most Fridays.

Friday's are a time for us to just breath. We each fend for ourselves food wise and the only demand on our time is when the dog needs to go outside. We can each do whatever we want, I may be online, he's playing a game or we stay up until three and four in the morning snuggled on the sofa watching a good movie. It's all about never looking at the clock. ;c)

My DH works late and plays tennis on Fridays so I have the house to myself (w/ the pups of course) until 9 or so. Then we go for a 1 hour dog walk (but we do that every night). Saturdays are our out-to-dinner nights and we go to a nice restaurant every Saturday.

We are usually home on Friday nights. Both of us need to unwind after a long week. I consider it my "sacred" time to be with DH and kitties where I don't have to work. We usually cook in, make burgers or maybe fish.

I have had work-related functions on Fridays which makes me really annoyed. We were asked on a quality of life survey about things that could be better, and I said no functions on Friday nights.

I love Fridays! Even though I am retired now Fridays are special to me and my most favorite day of the week. We usually stay in as Saturday is our date night or time with friends night.

I love Friday evenings. My son gets out of school early on Friday afternoons, and we get home early enough that sometimes I can take an afternoon nap. Last week I was up at 4:30 every day and had a very stressful work week-- and I slept for 3.5 hours yesterday afternoon, and 8.5 hours last night!! I think I was worn out.

We very rarely go out. We have something simple or takeout for dinner. I cherish being able to relax with my family, instead of rushing through the homework/dinner/what's needed for the next day/household chores/ try to get to bed on time routine. I love going to bed and knowing I don't have to set my alarm, and I won't have to do the commute the next day!

We don't really have a ritual, but love our Fridays! I work part-time, but the days i work often change. I almost never work on Fridays. Hubby works Mon - Thursday, so Friday is usually like an extra day of the weekend for us. Friday "night" usually starts early for us. I actually prefer breakfast or lunch out rather than dinner. What I really like is a late lunch/early dinner. That's what we did yesterday. Still got home in time to spend some time on the patio before it got dark. Had a relaxing evening, caught up on the newspaper, etc. and hubby had a new book.

Friday nights I am pooped! My special treat on Friday nights is I go to bed early, because whatever I have to do can wait until Saturday morning.

Friday nights are very special to us and our family, friends and DH's patients all know it. So, no phone calls unless it's a true emergency. DH brings home a pizza and we eat snuggled up on the family room sofa together. A fire crackling in the fireplace. The fur kids cozied up nearby with their bones, as we watch a Netflix movie. After dinner, we'll enjoy a nice Scotch & Water while still watching the movie. It's such a great way to start our weekend. Together.

Friday nights are our night to relax for an early dinner out usually. I usually work a partial day on Fridays, run some errands, and try to get home a bit early, sometimes in time for a quick nap or just a rest. Then we eat out either alone or with DD and her SO and DGD, and sometimes with friends. Lately, it usually just the two of us since I have training runs at 6 am on Saturday mornings so I get my things together & go to bed early.
