My cat, Rocket, took a long time to calm down. At least a year and even then he had his moments.

Mine took about a year to 1 1/2 years, but she has a dog kennel attached to the house which kept her occupied. Does your cat have tunnels, tents, toys and tower(s) to play with/on? Mine loves the tunnels and tents and pretty much took over my young granddaughter's play tent!

So... I have a few monre months to go?!? ;) Shadow has one of those ball-in-a-racetrack things, which he likes, and also a huge scratching post which he climbs to the top of and sits on, awaiting an unsuspecting foot to walk by... Lots of balls and squeaky mice, too, which he plays with. But, alas, his favorite toy is ME. :D I'll miss this craziness when (if!!!) he calms down a bit, but for now it's be nice to get a good nights' sleep...

Is your kitten fixed yet? That will also help to slow him down. But, enjoy it while you can, they grow up fast.

Yes, he was neutered at 3-1/2 months but it didn't do much for his craziness. :) And I am always telling myself to enjoy it before he grows up and doesn't play any more. But some times I just need a break!

I do normally get my animals in two and actually wish we had done that with our dog. These two are inseparable, so in that respect I'm glad, but they are both really different. While one is stealing ear plugs from my husbands desk drawer, harassing the dog and looking in all the trash cans for paper bags, the other is making the rounds for attention or jumping on the counters just to irk us.

No two cats are the same and their energy levels can really vary too. My husband had a cat that was super hyper and would hang from the chandelier so to speak. They do understand more than they lead on and can be trained especially if they are food motivated. Our male (the black and white one) is especially trainable, the female, not so much. Also, I think it's important to have a place your little guy can either retreat to or you can put him in so he can settle down when you need him to. There is nothing wrong with housing him in a bathroom or crate for a couple of hours as a way to time out a bit; just don't let the quiet get the best of you and forget he's there. LOL

we got 2 new babies in april they will be a year in feb they are on the go all the time the male one is more interjected than the female they are brother and sister but they are so different the black and white is the male

Okay, so there's light at the end of the tunnel... MAYBE!!! :D Shadow is our 11th cat, but the 5 kittens we had in earlier years (2 litters) had always kept themselves amused so I had no idea that one little black kitten could be so... energetic... !!!

Shadow thanks you all ofr the compliments. :) All we can figure is that he's a shorthair... his mother abandoned his litter in the woods last April and he was the only survivor. He is blind in his right eye, but so far no issues with that and it hasn't seemed to slow him down a bit!

Considering his history, he's probably just thankful to have a good home and trying to enjoy life to it's fullest, (partying it up?) surviving does that LOL. On the flip side, yes, it's probably over kill but he could have come out of it ferrel acting, shy and disconnected. He looks very healthy and happy.

My "Figgie" is 1 year. She's frisky in the mornings..then relaxes the rest of the day. When I get home from work, she follows me around the house.

I got a 7 month old kitten who is now 2 1/2 years old. She's still full of p' and vinegar and at times drives me nuts. She is fun and sweet though and I know some day she'll settle down.

OMG can we relate. We have a ten month old (who looks like Shadow's clone by the way). He is a maniac. We have never had a kitten like this (he is our 4th) and our joke is that we actually got a dog.

He digs in the trash.

He begs constantly by sitting on his haunches and waving his front paws at you whenever he wants something.

He chews - on anything - furniture, boxes, etc.

He fetches (which is cute but less so at 5 am).

I routinely search for new cat toys to keep him from being bored - you can totally tell when he is.

We too are waiting on a bit of maturity but are worried that the chewing is just his personality!

Sarah_socal, We have a chewer too. Have you found anything that works? I have heard there is a Bitter Apple spray that can be a deterrent.

Oh, I find you're actually better off with at least two -- they will play with each other and wear themselves out. So, just get yourself another kitten! What fun!

I did try the Bitter Apple and Shadow is ambivelant about it. The stuff sems to deter him from plant-chewing but only for as long as it's wet-- once it dries he is back absuing my poor plants again.
