HUSH system

Hi,

I am in the process of selecting materials and features for my kitchen renovation. Can someone tell me what is HUSH system? What are the pro and cons and how much it will cost me?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Mindy

Its a good thread with pictures. I think the HUSH mount is $6. Yes six dollars.

ETA: there have been several recent threads about HUSH if you need more info.

    Mindy:

I've installed over 30 Hercules Universal Sink Harnesses over the last 5 years without a single callback, however, they are getting some serious competition from the Sink Strap which is even easier to install.

    Hi Joseph,

    Thanks for your comment.

The question is...does every sink require HUSH system? How and when the installer determine why the sink needs HUSH system?

in case if it matters, I am seriously considering Kohler Stages 45" sink with Cambria quartz counter tops

I only came to know about HUSH system from Houzz postings. But I am still not fully aware of its pro and cons.

    Thank you,

    Mindy

MIndy: All undermount sinks, with the exception of solid surface and Karran sinks that are adhered, must have mechanical fastening.

    Joseph,

Since I am in the design phase of my kitchen renovation and when it comes to installing the kitchen sink, then do I need to tell the plumber to use HUSH system for the sink?

I do not want to make a fool of myself by telling the plumber about HUSH system in case it may be common sense issue for him since he is the plumber. But installing sink with HUSH system is not a common sense issue for me because I am totally clueless about plumbing.

    What do you suggest?

    Thank you,

    Mindy

    Mindy:

Generally, attaching sinks is the job of the countertop fabricator, not the plumber. Ask your top fabricator how he plans to mechanically fasten the sink and go from there.

Joe, how much weight does the system support? My sink (soapstone) will weigh between 250 and 300 lbs. I think we may have to build a support shelf?

    Joseph,

HUSH system is required whether the sink is made with 16 gauge or 18 gauge steel, right?

I am planning to buy Stages 45" sink, but it does not come with colander. My 2nd choice is Kohler Prolific, but it is made with 18 gauge steel. I am pretty confused:-).

    Thank you,

    Mindy

The HUSH is just a product to mechanically support the sink. It doesn't matter what kind of undermount sink you use with a stone counter, they all will require some type of mechanical support. The HUSH, the regent sink strap, or any number of systems will do that. The price of the HUSH or the sink strap makes them a great value.

Correct. Cast iron, stainless, Silegranit, doesn't matter.
