Does rug work?

This is for my den, the den is a cozy spot. Our woodstove is in this room, the brick in the moodboard represents the chimney and the hearth. The walls, ceiling and trim are SW Alabaster white(varying finishes). My home is post and beam so the room has woodwork in the form of beams in the ceiling, posts and ship's knees in the corners. I have a chocolate brown sofa and a teal leather chair. The windows have soft fabric shades in a rough silk/linen texture in soft aqua woven with cocoa.

The size I need is 8x8 square which is not easy to find at a price point I desire. I am pretty convinced this rug will work. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts as returning a rug will be a bit of a pain.

Rugs works really well with your sofa and chair. I dont know about the brickwork though. Is there some brick color in the rug, its hard to tell.

I think they look great together. Love the rug.

    Thank you both.

RoseAbbey The rug description does say rust and my actual bricks are more muted than those shown.

Absolutely then, it will look fabulous!

I don't think a rug has to match exactly all of the elements in the room, but needs to blend and provide a harmonious, complementary touch. This rug appears to do just that. Go for it!

I think the rug will look great :)

I really like the rug with your other elements.

For me, not so much. I think it's that the teal chair with the blue in the rug are trying too hard. I think it's better, if the colors don't match, then to have the shade in the rug be darker than the chair.

    Maybe this one?

    Or this one?

    Or this one?

Thank you all. Annie- can you articulate any concerns, or is it just a general feeling?

I'm sorry...I thought I did....I don't see the teal in the rug so I'm wondering where it's coming from. The blue is too pale in the rug for my tastes. I'm thinking either ignore the teal in the rug, or go deeper than the chair so the chair lifts and brightens the blue tone in the rug.

I'm also looking at the very modern style of the sofa and the chair with the more traditional rug. While mixing styles is perfectly fine, it's up to you if this is where you want the room to go. You could easily go more contemporary in your rug style if you wanted....at least from the pieces I see in your mood board.

This is all just my taste though. If you're happy with it, then go for it.

I wonder if different monitors are making the mock-up look different. I'm seeing the blue in the rug as a definite aqua, which goes very well with the chair.

It looks wonderful on my monitor and think the style of the rug could be used with most any style furniture; oriental rugs are often used in very modern rooms, as well as traditional ones. I love all those colors together!

So strange Annie when I saw and responded to your post the first time the only thing it said was "For me not so much", now however, I can see your full post.

I do love the 2nd rug you posted and think it would be great too. I have ordered the first one already so I will wait and see :)

I like the first one you posted. It adds a bit of color that would otherwise be just brown and brick/rust.

The blue of the rug and the teal of the chair look fine together on my monitor, but the fact that we don't seem to all be seeing it the same way may be a red flag. Photos aren't great predictors for the actual color of anything, so it may turn out that the rug is the wrong shade of blue to work with your chair (I'm kind of picky about matching blues).

Because Annie's suggestions have less blue in them, and in the case of the navy bordered one, a lot darker blue, they might be "safer," meaning less likely that they arrive and you find out that the blues clash.

My vote is for the one you posted. It looks good from where I am sitting.

I think it looks faaaaabulous! The teal chair will actually make the blue in the rug pop. Look no further.

I'm a big fan of orientals and modern furniture. I like your rug choice, especially if the colors are true to life. There's just enough difference in the tonal values of the chair and rug to complement each other. Go for it.

On my monitor it looks as though the rug will work well with your other elements. If not I do like the second one Annie posted.

Localeater, that looks like the rug i purchased two weeks ago from overstock. I love it. It is a smokey teal color and very pretty. Here it is in my living room with my furniture.

My sofa is not as light as first photo. Second one is more true colorwise.

OP, I just bought the same rug--if it is Safavieh HG812b. I bought the 5 x 8 size for a room with BM Bythe Blue walls. Just to report that the rug is indeed quite teal rather than baby or another shade of blue. I love the rug! I bought mine from Overstock but it is sold at amazon too. Go for it!

Wow countryatheart, we posted at the same time! Yes, that's my rug too! Love it in your room!

Cassandra-thank you. Its the first time I bought something like that on line and I am quite pleased with it.

I, too, was very hesitant, but the price was very good. You hear complaints about some Safavieh rugs shedding horribly. That worried me too, but I am just experiencing a small amount of typical shedding with this rug. I'm so glad I went with it: it is a stunning rug. OP, go for it!

Countryatheart, Cassandra its so nice to hear that you both are enjoying the rug. Country your pictures really helped me. Thank you

Your welcome, glad to be able to help.

Localeater, I had the same rug and for me it read teal for sure.

Absolutely it works, go for it. You've chosen well.

I think they look nice from the picture you post!

my concern would be what the actual colors are, but it is really helpful to hear from a couple of people who ordered the same rug! sounds like you're good! :)

Love the rug!!! I think it will work beautifully.

country, where did you get the teal pillows? I've been looking for pillows to complement the rug. Teal is a hard color to match!

Cassandra, I ordered the teal pillows with the sectional. I think it is a Broyhill, but I'm not sure. The striped ones are from Pier 1.

Just wanted to post an update. The rug arrived and we like it, the room's tones really work together and the space feels pulled together and cozy.

The colors look wonderful, but I'd center the rug in front of the sofa, or at least move it down so there is rug in front of all of the sofa.

I like the colors of the rug in your space very much! I agree that the orientation of the rug looks like it needs to be changed. Can you turn it the other way, so the width is running parallel to the sofa, with the front legs of the sofa on the rug?

I agree that the rug should be more centered with the sofa. It looks wonderful! I used to have that rug and loved it!

    BTW, thanks for the update!

Hey y'all , I appreciate all your comments so much. The rug will be centered on the sofa but this is woodstove season and I just feel safer with ample space away from flying embers. I can live with the lack of symmetry for a few months for safety's sake.
