Can the tv go above the fireplace?

I'll have to take a few further back when I get a chance. The sectional curves and comes around which creates a walk way to our slider door in the back. Please ignore the mess! Thanks.

No my husband doesn't like that. I consider d mounting the tv in the center of the blank wall with built ins? I don't know if that would be too much or too hard to view.

The floating shelved, which are placed too high over the sofa- move them between the TV and the table lamp. Put one as high as the middle of the TV and the other directly over it. The lamp shade on the end table could be switched out to a grey or closer color to wall. It stands out a bit too much. Try a black and white print from Allposters.com,they will frame, for over the sofa. The sofa is placed great, since it faces the TV, FP and window.

@miacometlady thank you so much. I'm obviously not very good at this. I was never sure about the shelves. I appreciate the help. I'm going to start looking for a black and white print now. Do you think the wall will still look too empty with only two shelves? Should I add more shelves? Do you think they are the correct width? Thank you again!

I think that your black mantle on one wall, the shelves and TV on the adjoining wall, and a black and white print with a black frame will balance the space. Don't forget that lamp. It actually might be too squatty. Perhaps something a bit taller with a black base and tan/grey/taupe lampshade. I've moved to my desktop and don't post photos from here. Smile.

I'm wondering what the opposite end of the room looks like,, because it appears that everything is lined up on the two long parallel walls, creating a corridor of sorts, looking unbalanced. I could be mistaken, but that's what I see from the photos.
To address this issue, I suggest moving the TV to the opposite end of the room (the wall parallel to the undecorated wall) and move the sectional along the undecorated wall. Not sure if this arrangement is possible dimension-wise, but it would provide a better balance.
Also, it appears that you have a lot of neutral colors- blacks, beige and brown. A large piece of colorful art over the fireplace would bring some color and life to the space, and better define the fireplace as your focal point. Then accessorize pulling colors from the art.
