Thanks for asking! The butcher block island top is a 1 1/2" thick 38"x 72" maple top with an oil finish by John Boos. Surveying several internet retailers it looks like you can purchase one for around $600. Best of luck.

Butcher block is made of endgrain pieces and need lots of oil to maintain because it will penetrate much deeper. http://www.spekva.com/Products/Solid_Wood/Endgrain.aspx

This is a more traditional way, sometimes glued together with fingerjoints on 2 or 4 sides to get a solid slab.

Just an idea, the almost same size piece of butcher block from ikea costs only 195.00. But you have to oil it, which they also carry the oil for about 8.00

I would recommend to oil every wooden countertop used in the kitchen. By doing so you can check the "pearl effect" and see if it is protected against water. If the waterdrops don't "pearl" it's time for maintenance. An oiled countertop can be sanded very easy if you want to remove wear and tear marks. This is a lot more work if your countertop is lacquered. Keep a good eye on the edges if you have an undercount sink. It's end grain and needs more care than other parts of your top.
