need help forcing paperwhites please

i bought some bulbs (i believe they are of the inbal variety) and thought i'd try forcing. i've never done this before so i made the mistake of forcing them in pebbles. they didn't do well at all; even though i changed the water daily the water stinks to high heaven, the stalks have grown to over 2' tall, they're flopping over and many have turned black. after 9 or 10 weeks they finally started to bloom, but they're a mess.

so i wanted to try again for Christmas and for some reason, again, i started them in pebbles. big mistake, as i should have tried to force them in soil. it's been about a week since i started these and they are doing quite well. roots are all out and look strong and there is 4-5" of growth.

i'm wondering though, is it possible to take them out of the pebbles and pot them in soil? i was thinking of using a long window box with drainage holes. i think this might give me a better shot of having beautiful paperwhites during the holidays, versus the smelly, floppy, not-so-nice things i have now.

any help appreciated!
