We actually did get tested and passed the tests with flying colors. We qualified for more than 3K in rebates. The system worked great through the summer, but with winter setting in this is becoming a bigger problem. How do I determine what insulation is in use?

Go up in the attic and see. And measure the thickness.

There is no insulation on the floor in the attic in that area. Can there be? Given that that is where the Heater residers.

Heat escapes UPWARDS. Insulation in the ATTIC is where you want it. Walls are one thing...if everything travels UP...guess where you want ALL THE INSULATION? Yep...UP in the attic.

You are letting all the energy escape through the roof via the attic. For insulation to be effective the ENTIRE envelope of the house (walls, ceilings, attic, etc) have to have all the same insulation or R-value. If you skip one section...that's where it is all going.

Think of heat like water. It will travel/escape through the path of least resistance. If you close up all the holes in a bucket...save 1 hole the water will still leak out. You need to plug ALL the holes and then the bucket will retain all the water.

The R-value you put into the walls and ceilings may not be enough for your level of winter. That is also another possibility.

Looks like I need to install insulation in the attic. That should be straightforward

A belated update. We resolved the issue by adding a heater vent in the closet and adding insulation in the attic. Thanks everyone for the responses
