Sigh. Stress crack probably due to heat. I'm hoping a granite/marble person will show up and help.

I remember from camping that stones tossed into a white hot fire would "explode" out of the campfire. This is not unheard of with stone exposed to heat. I'm hoping someone will have better news for you.

it seems that quartzite should withstand the 420 degrees. The vent never read over this temp with a digital thermo. Does the stone super heat or something?

Sepi, how did you resolve your issue with the backsplash? We just had the exact same thing happen to us with a quartzite backsplash behind a Thermador range with island trim kit. Cracked developed within 30 minutes of the initial burn off.

I would add some decorative stone work over the cracked area (3D) in such a way as to make it look like it was part of the design. Unless, of course, you have money to spend.....

This has also just happened to us. I realize this is a very old and likely dead thread, but just checking to see what was done to remedy the situation. Thermador was zero help when we called for a recommendation.

This just happened to me with my new Wolf and Quartz backsplash. The company is replacing all the Quartz with Quartzite. Hoping this doesn’t happen

Looks like your required 10" riser would cover that crack.
