Pull out trash (again!)

I have decided to put my trash pullout under the sink. I do have room for it in a cabinet, but not in a convenient cabinet! I think it is best solution for my kitchen, and as soon as I made that decision I felt a calm sweep over me, so I know it is right.

Now I find out that I have yet another decision to make. Do I want a full height door or do I want a shorter door with a false drawer above? I prefer the full height door for looks, but my cabinet maker tells me that if I go with the full height door I will have 11" from the top of the door to the top of the trash can. My question is, will that be too much? Should I have a door that closer matches the height of the trash bin? I'd love to hear from anyone (and pics are appreciated!) from anyone that has tall doors and short bins! All other thoughts are also welcome. TIA!

I can't picture what difference it would make, other than every time you open the full height door you will see the bottom of the sink. I must be missing something. I have the false drawer (except it isn't made to look like a drawer really).

I have what I think raee has. I don't really think it looks like a false drawer - I don't have a handle on it, for example, more like a panel. Here's what it looks like:

My cabinet is only 24" wide. I wanted to be able to get as tall a garbage bin as I possibly could, even though I do have the false front

. I got my bin from homedepot.ca and it fits the space perfectly, and is a 35 litre bin.

Thanks benjesbride. I have a tip out now, and do like it, I'm sure it's a possibility, and I will consider it if the shorter pullout door is the better option. raee,
that's why I posted! I don't know why it would matter that the door is
quite a bit taller than the top of the trash. I wonder what he knows
    that I don't!

Carrie, I was looking at yours earlier because I remember you wanted something larger. By the way, what did you end up with?

    lisapoi,
I also am looking to get the tallest bin possible - and in my case it
is approximately 18" tall. Above that, is my 10" sink plus the shelf
    that supports it.
    My
issue is looks..... as long as it functions! My preference in this
    case is
not to have the faux drawer or panel above the pullout only because I
think the area will look less busy. It is one of
the only times that I am looking at the aesthetics of the kitchen. But,
    this
is the 2nd time that my cabinetmaker has warned me about the excess door
height over the trash. Would you care if the pullout door didn't
correspond to the trash bin size? If there are no concerns, I won't
    worry about
    it!!

Sherri - ask your cabinetmaker why the taller door would bother him. The only think I can think of, it terms of use, is that if I'm reaching in to throw stuff away - especially if there are two bins, one behind the other, I might very well accidentally keep soiling the sink while stuff is on the way to the trash, and that would be a pain to clean.

I decided to go ahead and get the larger bins (make sure you measure really carefully - height, but also depth.) I sent an extra $50+ to the KD/cabinet co. and will have to pay the GC (he's coming anyway, to fix a minor detail) to switch them out. Waiting to here from them once they've got everything & can schedule.

I'll talk to him today. I wonder if my cabinet maker thinks I will stand in front of the cabinet door, pull it open and then reach over the door to drop in the trash which will be located a foot below the top of the cabinet that I've just opened (does that make sense?). In reality though, I think I'll be accessing the trash (either putting something in or emptying it) from the side, not the front. I must be missing something!!
