Ive been worming for a few years now but have come to realize that somewhere along the way I forgot some things or just plain got lazy. Im not sure the above heading is a statement or question Im thinking its both.

The other day I cleaned up my worm bin stall / closet. I had quite a few dead worms on the floor. Anyway I cleaned it all up and was thinking what or why were these worms leaving the bin, what was I doing wrong or what was wrong in the bin. Ive come to the conclusion nothing was wrong in the bin at all. But it was me, my lack of feeding the bins properly. Since cleaning up the stall not a single worm is seen out of the bin.

In the beginning I was feeding correctly and went by one motto-- "when I see a lot of worms on top of my food scraps start another pile in another section of the bin corner etc" as my herds grew I became lazy or was doing other things to the point of neglecting my bins thus worms leaving the bin looking for my food , Im just guessing. The motto above worked as it takes a day or two for the food to start decomposing and bacteria to start which brings up another motto "teaming with microbes" which many of you know about and that is what happens when the worms actually start to devour the decomposing food. Also I might add here that I save up food scraps then run them thru my juicer , save the pulp and even add the juice back into the pulp if it seems dry. So yes just beware when your herds start to grow dont be surprised if you need to feed more and more often or you could run into some problems. It has surprised me how fast the food I put in goes down which indicates to me the volume of worms that I have is more than I thought. Also it only makes since to keep the feed ready to develop more VC faster and better if that is your motive as it is mine--- happy worming.
