It's a different kind of marble called "Statuary". Carara has lots of small grey veins, giving the entire stone a more grayish appearance. Statuary has larger, more expressive veins in a field of white. If you like marble it's best to go to a slab yard and select the exact piece you like best. Ask your installer how many slabs you need. Marble needs to get sealed very well is used as a kitchen counter. New sealers do a great job preventing stains, but don't cut on it unlike you accept it develop Patina over time.

We are sort of mixed on doing a white countertop or a grey "concrete" Caesarstone which I'm leaning towards now as we have a lot of white going on (white shaker cabinets) white subway tile backsplash. Also thinking of doing Caesarstone "calcutta" in bathrooms which has a similar look to the marble (and again, white cabinets). Thank you so much suddenly we have so many detailed decisions to make and it's been unbelievably helpful finding this house that looks like ours and having you actually respond to my endless questions!! We are seriously considering doing the two beams in the family room thanks to what you guys did which I think looks amazing but my contractor is suggesting two "faux" wood beams I hope that would look passable!
