Pretty but too much furniture for me.

Although I'm not a fan of rose colored walls, classic rooms are still my favorites.

Are those floor lamps on both sides of the fireplace? Interesting placement.

I don't think there is too much furniture, but IMO it could use a little judicious editing of the knick-knacks. Even though the color is not one I would choose, nor the carpet style, etc., still the room to me has an appealing, comfortable feel.

I love the balance in this room. Can someone interpret what's over the mantle? I can't tell whether there's a mirror that reflects the opposite side of the room or if I'm seeing something set off center within a frame?

Love this room. I would be very happy in this space.

It looks like it's been imported from across 'the Pond' and made for friends to have a comfortable chat with some tea.

Yes I like it, it had a good balance and looks like it's evolved over many years. Not staged, just very British.

Lovely room...not a fan of the carpet, but the room looks cozy despite the large size and high ceiling.

One thing that I think makes it so inviting is the two comfy chairs by the fireplace with shaded reading lights nearby. It gives the room purpose, you know exactly what to do in it.

That's a lovely carpet. I could drip a drop of tea or tumble a cookie crumb and it wouldn't be seen.

While I love several of the elements of this room, together they leave me cold....I love the secretary and both the tea table and the long table by the window, but the placement of the pictures needs to be tweaked. They are too far apart, and all different.

The only things that bother me are the fussy window valance and the carpet, otherwise a very comforting room.

Love these posts, refreshing to see a different perspective than what I normally see.

    Not my style.

Just curious, when you look at the photo, do you have a mental impression of what you think the room smells like?

I think I could like the room a lot more with a different choice of house plant.

It so lovely, the secretary/cabinet/curio/whatever, which throws the balance around the fireplace off, gives the room a real look. That room will always be beautiful.

I think it probably smells like furniture polish and old wood. It's a little on the stodgy side, but it looks a lot more comfortable than a lot of new rooms.

The furniture looks comfortable and individually pieces are beautiful. But there are too many doo-dads, busy carpet, and fussy window treatments for me.

What a comfortable, colorful room! Yes, it's a stylistic throwback, but I can appreciate the detail & color after too many years of HGTV decorating. Nothing pops in that room -- it's great! Makes me want to settle in with a book and a cup of tea.

Yes, it's a classic, traditional room.

Here's another in that same vein. I actually like this one better though. It was Daphne du Maurier's childhood home.

Here's the living room in Daphne's home in Cornwall. Her son Kit is the current resident. I love this one, and I'm not a big fan of pink. (I do wonder if I'd love it half as much if it had not belonged to Daphne, though. I took photos outside of this place earlier this year. It's just lovely.)

    Not my style but...

Honestly? I think the homeowner had a healthy budget 25-30 years ago, got it done and hasn't looked back since. Doesn't care to follow trends and still enjoys the room for what it is. Would be mildly amused by our comments, but doesn't have time to read them all, as she's packing for her trip to the city to watch the parade or to catch a flight to London for some holiday shopping. Over in the decorating trends thread, she'd have no idea how to answer #1 and #2, but her answer for #3 would be "this room!"

I don't think she'd be catching a flight to London. She's either already there, or within driving/train distance. ;-D

    Classic, timeless, pearls and pumps.

It could use a bit of Chanel (take off two or three things before you leave the house) and a bit of Pal (traditional rooms need 30% contemporary, and vice versa, for a little extra interest and tension).

But I would not, could not, in a hat, live with that color.

Doesn't FnB have a color called "Dead Salmon"?

Most unfair thing about the room? The owner doesn't really need decorating or a decorator. Some of that stuff is clearly Mumsy's, and look at the BONES of that room. This isn't someone who is trying to make clamshell molding and 8' popcorn ceilings sing.

I like the arrangement of the items, even the color is ok with me, but the style of some of the furniture and art work choices are dreary to me. And the carpet pattern, ughh.
