How would you finish this edge? (Wood Trim)

I have a piece of base board that goes over a raised board at the stairs. I trimmed the bottom edge of the base board to accommodate for the raised board. Do I do the same for the quarter round or end it as you see in the pics? Did I end the baseboard correctly or is there a better method?
