Christmas decorating . . . outside

Don't know if this is an appropriate post or not , but here goes. I have a potting shed I want to decorate like a gingerbread house. Anyone ever done anything like that or seen anything like that? I'm looking for something home grown, not some expensive pre-fab kit.

sounds cute. I think I saw things on pintrest using pool noodles for something similar

Years ago we had a neighbor that would do this. He had all the blow mold plastic characters to set up around. It was so cute when done.

Yes, I'm doing this for work and we have a children's garden with raised beds that I am decorating with candy themed things I am picking up at yard sales, etc. and at the end of the garden is this potting shed so my idea is that it would have candy decorations all around it and then the gingerbread house at one end. I don't want something way over the top, but we decorate every year with lights and this is something I want to gradually incorporate.

It sounds so cute. I wouldn't have a clue where to start, but maybe those colored foam sheets cut in candy/cookie shapes? Since it is outdoors you would have to make sure you could secure them. You could also use wooden dowels with candy 'flowers' attached on the ends in front. Pinterest would be a great place to look for ideas.

Pool noodles are a good idea, but wonder if you can find this time of the year. Think about what you could do with large rolls of iridescent wrap in assorted colors. I just made two feral cat shelters (storage container w/foam), and bought foam sheets at Lowe's (normally used for garage door panel insulation). It was the least expensive I could find locally.

The material they use to stuff pillows - polyester foam stuffing? I suppose that would get pretty sick looking if it got wet tho. The Styrofoam is a good idea, you could cut it to look like icicles hanging along the eaves.

I was thinking about icicles too, but I think our MI weather will take care of that! I'm trying to think of something that I can just put on the front wall that looks like giant candy. I'm just not sure where to get foam rolls in color and big enough. Too bad, because I have a plethora of small foam sheets, oddly! I inherited them from my predecessor.

I've got candy shapes and gingerbread people on dowels to stick in the garden beds leading up to the shed. So I just need something to decorate the shed that evokes "gingerbread house." I may just have to collect a few things over the years. That's what I did for the other part. I don't have a huge budget and depend on donations. If I was friends with someone with a good wood shop I might be able to make some wood things. But that just seems a little too elaborate for me this year . . . I like the idea of some kind of plastic thing just because it would be easy to store. On the flip side, plastic is kind of nasty . . . well maybe I should think about doing a few wooden things . . . but I don't really know of anyone with a wood shop. Maybe next year I could team up with a school shop teacher.

OK, well a quick google and I came up with this photo, which I think uses spray on snow. My potting shed is already a gingerbread color, so this has some possibilities. I have the candy canes and with some cardboard and plastic wrap if I can find some maybe at a fabric store, I can turn my insect nets into lollipops!

I got this from a Pinterest page of Laura Tucker-Hite. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/159948224242156575/

What about using ball pit balls? They come in many colors, and you can get replacement balls for ball pits on Amazon. They would look like giant sour balls.

Great idea on the foam core. I'm going to the craft store this weekend so I'll bet they will have big ones there. If not, I can hit up Lowe's!
