The velcro that is used to attach the drapes to the crib is heavy duty
and it is even hard for an adult to pull them off. When a child grows
big enough to pull on them, they are also big enough to push the drape
off of them, in the miniscule chance that they could actually pull them
off. If a toddler is able to climb out of the crib with the help of the drapes or on their own, then clearly they have outgrown the crib and are ready for a toddler or adult bed. Only the parent knows
their child best and if they can handle such a design.

If a baby rolls over and his little face is too close to the bumper, there is an increased risk of SIDS. You can defend your design, or you can be truly innovative and come up with something that is both beautiful and safe. Who knows, it might make you rich! :-)

Since retail nursery stores like Serena & Lily, Pottery Barn Kids and Restoration Hardware are still selling crib bumpers following strict manufacturing safety standards, my clients and I believe they are safe. They have been very happy with my design ideas and haven't experienced any issues.
