Coordinating blue pearl granite with island

We are renovating and after tearing out walls we will have about a 1,000 sq ft great room. The kitchen will be an L shape with a large island. The cabinets will be a red cherry. We had blue pearl granite counters at our last house and they were perfect. Easy maintenance and I loved the shiny pop of color. We didn't find anything we liked more we so thought we would choose it again. Unfortunately the place we used last time with great prices has the slabs for the L shape but not the larger slab needed for the island. They have no idea when or if they will get it back in stock. I've seen kitchens with a different color cabinet for the island than than the rest of the kitchen but I can't find any pictures of a kitchen with one color cabinets throughout but different color stone on the island. We are on a tight budget and it could take some time to get everything finished up. I want to get the blue pearl granite now for the L shape while its in stock. If we have everything in place and the island slab is still not in I figure I could settle for something else. Any thoughts on choosing the right alternate? Does it have to be granite? Is choosing a different stone altogether too much variation? My husband likes white Quartz. I'd probably want smething more like blue Volga. With an island does it matter? Or is the variation (if necessary) more of a statement piece? Or does that look strange when the cabinets are all the same color? Thanks!
