Wet here but no damage and so far no freezing temps. No sun forecast for us until Tuesday either and it looks like Tuesday and Wednesday mornings will be frosty.

Just wet here, as well--no flooding or freezing. My parents went home today on US70 through Texas, and while the roads were okay, it was icy with limbs down here and there. I'm ready for sunshine.

I'm glad their travels went okay. I'm seeing scores of for-sale ads for the Bedlam game as people back out of going. It's not really too bad here, but those who planned to travel great distances. Nope.

I noticed South central Oklahoma as of yesterday has had the wettest year on record. I wonder if Dawn is wet enough, now. Sheesh, Oklahoma!

So far with this multi-day rain system, we have had 6.5" of rain, which is about 6.5" more than we needed.

Love County's average annual rainfall is 38.85". Our rainiest year on record had 59.28". Since we moved here, our rainfall has varied from 18.39" to a little over 51". So far this year, our official precipitation total is 70.3" and that doesn't include anything that has fallen here since midnight.

I do miss the sunshine. We feel fortunate to have escaped the freezing rain and/or any other form of frozen precipitation. The low temperature recorded on our Min-Max thermometer overnight was 33 degrees.

Those of you who are in icy areas, please be careful. Those falling trees and power lines (not to mention slippery sidewalks and roadways) can be so dangerous.

We'll be watching Bedlam from home tonight, and promise to feel sorry for anyone and everyone who is out there at the game freezing in the cold night air. I've been looking at seed catalogs all afternoon but cannot seem to get motivated to make any decisions about what seeds I want to order. I need sunshine to get into a gardening mood!

Just rain, rain, and more sloppy rain. Daryl and Connor drove over to Shawnee this morning and saw ice on trees and ground, as well as downed tree limbs. The worst we suffered was a three hour power outage the day before Thanksgiving. Strong winds blew a tree onto a power line (of course we were waiting on a propane delivery, so I panicked a little about cooking & heat in the event things got worse quicker and farther east than predicted.) Sure feeling for those who are without power.

No ice here and over 4 inches of rain so far.

My favorite tree took a beating. Can you guess what I'll be doing for the next few days?

I went out last evening for something sweet and a 6" limb just missed me right outside my back door. Just one more small incident in a charmed life!

I just emptied my rain gauge, it said I had 4 inches of rain. Hmm. I wonder if I emptied it last time or if that is accurate? :) Maybe Sharon will chime in on her rain amount.

We lost all sorts of tree limbs around here. I don't know how many times people can watch Bradford Pears be decimated and then replant them! We have a bunch of diseased elms too.

I had one real tree left on my property, a fruitless mulberry. The tree trimmers warned me it had a limited life left. Yup, they were right. I lost two huge branches out of it and they pinned all my house lines down to the ground. Amazingly enough i have electricity? but not internet. Fortunately I can use my phone as a hotspot, using the phone basically as a wifi modem. That may be my new favorite part of my phone!

I'm going to remove my tree (later) and then look at redesigning my back spaces. I really need to add a patio

I'm not sure how safe it is to be using my electricity, but I am :)

If my electric line was on the ground, I'd make a wide path around the tree and where the line touches the ground.
Have you called your electric service provider?

Everything but the street was covered in ice and we still go 4" or more of rain. I don't have to worry about trees falling on the house any more, but I could hear them breaking all along the creek. Crazy holiday weather wise. We need sun!!!!!!

Light rain fell on and off all day, but it was much lighter than on other days. Hopefully the end of the rain is in sight. We're now at 7.1" since the rain started falling here on Thanksgiving Day. At least we didn't get ice.

Moni, Staying in ALB another day sounds like a great idea. Have a safe drive home.

Lisa, Oh, be careful. Downed power lines are so dangerous. In certain circumstances they can energize the ground (if the line is not properly grounded), so be careful! I agree with everything Johnny said.

I agree about the ornamental pear trees. No matter that they are only in bloom for a couple of weeks and are horribly brittle and break so easily----people will take out the damaged one and then come right back and plant another one.

stockergal, I heard a rumor the sun is coming in another day or two. I hope it shows up 'cause we sure do need it.

I have walked a wide path around the line. It is the line leading into the house vs. the overhead power lines. I called OGE, but the fact that I still have power, even with a downed line, seems to put me at the bottom of the list! There are thousands still without power here.

Last night I shut off the heat and unplugged everything, but when the house reached 51 degrees this morning, I caved in and turn the heat back on.

I guess we will have a lot of emergency fire wood for next year.

I always keep about a week or two around just in case.

Lisa, Your poor yard and trees! That is just sad. It also is sad you're low on the totem pole because you still have power, but that's how it works. I don't know if calling your homeowner's insurance provider for advice would help, but it might. They certainly have a vested interest in you and your home's safety. Let's think positive and look beyond the immediate tragedy: you now have a lot of new material for a compost pile!

Johnny, That's a great idea. It is so much better to have a wood supply stacked up, dried/cured and ready and waiting than to have to suddenly scramble to find wood.

Being a family of firefighters, we have no fireplace or woodburning stove, never have had them and never will. (We've been to too many house fires over the years linked to both.)

We do have a generator though. After skating through many ice and wind storms and never losing our power for more than an hour or two, we finally bought a generator last year, figuring our luck would run out sooner or later. So far, we haven't had to use it to heat the house, but there is a certain peace of mind that comes just from having a generator in case you ever need it. You have to figure that living in Oklahoma means you'll need a generator sooner or later (or at least an alternate power source of some kind, whether it is a fireplace, woodburning stove or some other manner of heating/cooking/lighting) because the weather here is not kind to our trees or power lines.

That sounds like a mess, Sharon. I'm glad you're okay and there wasn't any serious damages. It's unbelievably expensive to have trees trimmed. your scenario is advise that preventative measures are best.

Folks, I am back. My yard looks normal on the first glance... for after a freeze, but there is a limb from the neighbors pecan tree.

Just got in. Looks like Amarillo was prolly slick yesterday... I 40 was all wet!

Just east of the Texas/Oklahoma border were a lot of Electric trucks along the frontage road, working on lines.

Trees are damaged in the neighborhood, but it doesn't look as bad here, as the 2007 Tulsa ice storm.

Need food.

Glad you are home safe and sound. Some places over here have had no power since Saturday and won't have until Thursday. It's too cold for that.

The pictures are heart breaking. Just seeing the trees all broken makes me cry. Ice is so destructive and does absolute no good for anything. Hope you guys get everything cleaned up and power back on soon. I remember the 2007 ice storm and it was a nightmare. I remember standing in the garage ( couldn't go outside because of falling limbs) and listening to the loud cracking, it sounded like a war zone. It lasted for about 12 hours.

Give those trees a chance to stand back up before your start trimming. You will be surprised at what will recover.
