island countertops

Any suggestions for my island countertops? My kitchen will have cream cabinets, slate gray concrete countertops, and brushed nickel handles and pulls. I am thinking of using a different color or material for the island countertops with will have a white farmhouse sink.

Butcher block counter would be a good fit with a farmhouse sink.

I'm not sure if you have a supplier of green building materials in your area, but to expand on Dytecture's advice, there is a bamboo butcher block that is pretty sweet. Here is an image of it, but looks much better in person.
