Does a master bathroom need a tub?

We are about to start a complete remodel of our master bathroom. Currently we have a large whirlpool tub that has been used less than 15 times in 10 years. I would like to remove the tub that is next to our shower and turn the whole area into a large spa like shower. The other full bathroom on the same floor also has a smaller jetted tub. Wondering what others think. My wife thinks we need to the tub for resell not that we plan to sell for a little while.

One tub per house is plenty. Remodel for yourself, not for strangers. A big shower will wow them anyway.

We just redid our master bath and yanked out the 6 foot jetted tub that I think I used 5 times in 20 years! It has been replaced with a 4.5' x 4' porcelain tiled shower that you could have a party in and we LOVE IT! Thelma is right, if you have a tub in the other bathroom you're golden, and WOW doesn't even begin to describe people's reaction to the shower! Go for it!

I don't think it is a necessary to have bathtube in the master bathroom, we just decided not to put one in my master bathroom . I have another two bathroom that has bathtubs that we don't use. good luck.

I too agree that a tub in the master bath is not necessary if there is another tub in the house. Removing the tub should give you a lot more options for a really nice shower and give you more for really nice fixtures in your shower.

Agree with everyone here. Your "one tub in the house" rule is already being taken care of in the guest bath. That means you are free to do what you want in the master bath.

A high-end "spa" shower will have plenty of selling power...more so than a generic tub. You have the tub elsewhere. Do what works for you in the master bath...it will please you and help with a higher resale value.
