It is most common to have the same finish and cabinetry in tract and lower end housing. The more "custom" a home, the more the features vary...harmonize, but vary.

Builders often have all their cabinetry the same colour as it is more cost effective. I feel however as most designers do, that each room should be treated as a separate entity. I wouldn't hesitate in mixing different cabinetry colours throughout your home. I would however keep cabinetry styles the same to ensure your home has a unified and cohesive look that flows from room-to-room.
