TV Mounting Question

I'm looking for some advice before I mount our flat screen on the living room wall.

With the tv mount we bought the tv is centred to the part of the mount that attaches to the wall only when the tv is pulled away from the wall fully.

So, if I centre the mount on the wall the tv will only be centred on the wall when it's pulled out about 10" from the wall. When the tv is pushed back against the wall it would be 13" off centre to the wall.

If I install the mount 13" off centre on the wall the tv will be 13" off centre when it's pulled out and centred when pushed back to the wall.

Or I just take it back because this seems like a really stupid way to design a tv mount! Is this normal? I don't really want it to be off centre ever, because it's just going to look like I put it up wrong, right?

What would you do?

I attached the worst photo ever of the area, I hope that helps some?
