Clean it and use it. If the paint is not flaking and you don't have kids, I would not worry. Repainting won't work. The paint will not stick well without sanding.

Yes, you shouldn't put food directly on this piece, but if it's just going to sit and you don't have kids, it may not be a problem.

Dishes with lead are a much bigger issue.

On the other hand, my mother gave me the high chair that was bought for her in the 40s, used for me in the 60s ... and I knew it had to be stripped. I've refinished other furniture, but getting that paint off was SERIOUS WORK. I understand why people wanted lead paint (back before they knew the dangers).
