How are you watering it? What soil is it in? What kind of light does it get?

The white growth are roots and it looks like the plant has a water issue. Either the roots are dead or dying from too much water (and therefore can't take in enough water) or the plant isn't getting enough water.

The roots may have rotted. You can cut the stems, let them dry overnight, then put in a pot of fresh soil (without any time-release fertilizer in it.)

i never succeeded with clay pots... except with cactii ....as far as i am concerned.. in my experience.. they are a greenhouse tool ....

and i agree its a water management issue.. and i blame the pot ...

i see a very strong piece back there... i would take a new sharp razor blade ... and cut off the ugly parts.... and i would probably do it.. while i was repotting it into a new plastic pot ... with fresh dampened media ..

i would choose a plastic pot.. that fit into the clay pot... if the clay pot was precious to me ...

once all that was done.. and it was watered in ... i would not water it again .. until the top inch dries .. insert finger ... though i say the pot is the problem... you are.. after all.. in charge of the watering can ...

i think part of the root issue... is that water management.. is feast or famine ... its either too wet ... or too dry ... you need to find some middle ground ...

Evan, please know that clay pots are greatly preferred by many, if not most growers, especially for succulents. If you have any kind of a tendency to water too frequently, clay is the way to go.
