Laminate on top of tile?

I have smooth tile floors (16 yr.) home and would like to put wide plank laminate on top. I have heard both sides to do it and not to, what is the best economical decision, it would be for at least 1500 sq. feet home. Thank you.

I have done it in a living room with no problems it is not the perfect answer as really the tile should be removed and new subfloor installed but my clients did not want the expense it has been in for 3 yrs no problems yet.

I'm not a professional but from my various DIY projects I've learned that good prep work is essential to preventing future problems. So, I agree with the Pro above - tile should be removed and new subfloor installed.
