Are all the cabinets maple and then stained cotton and pecan ? Never understand why anyone chooses a specific wood then stains it to look like another wood

Why someone, you mean me, I suppose, would choose a specific wood and then paint or stain it is due to personal preference and budget. I have had and loved beautiful cherry cabinets and countertops for 35 years and am looking for something completely different in my new house. The cotton is a painted color yes and I’m not a lover of light maple wood. I came here looking for assistance not attitude @patriciacolwellconsulting.

I am not trying to be rude but wood cabinets cost more than painted ones and IMO painted cabinets done on MDF just work better than wood painted since wood expands and contracts and all the seams can be obvious at times. Since budget is the issue I am just curious about the choice of an expensive wood that you will cover with paint.

It was a fair statement made from a lifetime of working with homeowners. The wood you use does not matter if you are painting it. Most white cabinetry is composit. The industry cannot justify the cost of premium hardwood, painted when you get the exact same look and value with a cheaper grade product. If you spend the money on hard wood stain it or you are just flushing money down a toilet. The picture of the two tone kitchen should convince anyone that it is not a great look. Suburban kitchens do not show this design statement well. It ends up looking like a half finished room. Going from beautiful quality cherry cabinetry to the picture above is quite a change.
