You need to choose your appliances, so that the cabinetry can be sized appropriately.

i'd say look at a lot of pictures of completed kitchens and find one you love (color wise) 100% or only need to change one thing. it seems folks choosing things independently have the most dilemmas.

Both points perfect, look at photos til you see colors, style you like. See what isn't working, the flow, what is architecture of the rest of the house, ie, not doing a southwest Adobe look in a Victorian house, which we've all seen and versions of. Ask yourself, how would like to live, what you need, family needs. Know what your budget is so you know costs and that dictates top, middle brands of flooring, cabinets, appliances, finishes. Hire a designer to help you map out the space, what is code, perhaps ADA & space needs for cabinets, appliances.
