Need help with sink ideas

Next decision...sink. DH would like a large single bowl sink and since he does the dishes, I am agreeable! Don't really want white with this granite so leaning toward stainless to go with SS appliances. But would rather have something more creative though reasonably priced. Any ideas/pictures?

First off, that granite is gorgeous.

I am picky about kitchen sinks. Over the years, I realized I hate double bowl sinks (unless one of those bowls is big enough to lay cookie sheets, roasting pans, and frying pans flat on the bottom), I hate the inability to sweep water and crumbs into a self-rimming sink, and no matter how dazzling or colorful other options may be, nothing is more forgiving in appearance and performance than stainless steel. I put in a 32" width, 10" depth, 1" radius sink in my kitchen a few years back, and it has been the best sink I have ever enjoyed.

If you don't want to go SS, my first thought was grey silgranite. And, it might depend where the cutout ends up. Tan might be good too. The granite has swirls of both.

I'm right with nightowl as that would be my choice. Check out the Blanco silgranite super single. I love mine ( I have the Précis). The silgranite sinks get great reviews on GW.

I could see several colors matching very well. I would check out cinder, metallic silver, or truffle with that awesome granite. I remember seeing your slab from your other thread and I just love that!

I am so thrilled you're going with the granite. You won't be disappointed.

with that gorgeous hunk I'd do the spendie thing with faucet and stick with a good stainless sink. there are faucet styles galore, and something Not Modest in terms of style and size, sitting atop, that you see all the time, will cost more than a basic faucet.....stick with stainless sink.

Your slab is exactly why I chuckle when people try to claim granite is on its way out. There is nothing that man can make that can compare to what God has made...the bejeweled slice of rock you selected being a perfect example. I can't imagine you'd ever regret that beautiful stone on your counters.

Wow, beautiful stone! I would do the "SILGRANIT Cinder, Eye-catching shade of dark gray with a natural rock-like note. The warm brown hues are what give this shade its unforced, timeless elegance. Its natural appeal and soft touches of gray are perfect for lots of different combinations with the latest wood and stone décors."

I love my Swanstone "low divide" silgranite sink! Best of both worlds and can use the smaller section to wash fruit, do hand washing or dish drain area. The low divide helps make the sink function like one large bowl sink as cookie sheets and large pans are easy to wash as the divider is low and these things can go across the entire area. There is a nice metallica color and the pricing is great on these if you check around online. Got ours on Homedepot.com last year and is the curved divide in Nero (black) though, which could be discontinued. LOVE your granite btw.

Cinder looks great. If you think you would be unhappy with a dark sink, then truffle would be fine too. Silgranit white is not a pure white so that would look fine too.

If you want something that is simply spectacular looking than I would go for the Kohler sea salt- you should be able to get samples of that color at any of the fancy plumbing supplies near you. It will require more maintenance than the silgranit, but it will look far superior. I opted for low maintenance but that may not be your choice.

I agree with BB galore, nothing beats how amazing granite is. However depending upon the way the light comes in through the kitchen window, you may find yourself polishing the granite so that you don't see every single swipe mark on it (which is why I went with Corian). If that is the case, you need to invest in lighting that comes straight down from above. Something to keep in mind.

I have to respectfully disagree with Practigal about seeing swipe marks. I have polished granite that has some similarities to the OP's, though not nearly as dramatic or chunky. But mine has some of the same coloration, and is very swirly. I also have a very large window in the kitchen. No issues with seeing swipe marks or streaks - in fact, that is what is so awesome about getting a patterned granite like that - nothing shows. Also no issues with glare.

My sink is stainless steel, though I definitely would have preferred the easy-care of Silgranit. I had a difficult location which needed a custom sink size, so I went with stainless custom sink for that reason. I have a large single-bowl sink with corner drain similar in design to the Silgranit BlancoDiamond Super Single (corner drain is so great).

I am sorry, but I don't like the low-divide sinks suggested above (just MHO). You still can't lay down a roasting pan or other large pot in them, and to soak something large like that, you have to fill the sink almost to the top, lean the roasting pan against the low divide, and have a corner of the pan sticking up out of the water.

Also, Tinker1121 mentioned "Swanstone silgranit". They are two different materials from 2 different companies. Blanco Silgranit is 80% granite, and Blanco has multiple patents on the material. I am not familiar with Swanstone's granite composite sinks, only that they are not the same as Silgranit.

Great suggestions, thank you all. I wondered about the benefits of the low divide sink. I had not yet discovered the Silgranite. Definitely like the look; will definitely have to go see it. rebunky THANK YOU for the picture! I am still considering SS also. Not quite sure of my objection. I just haven't had SS before. Love this forum!

herbflavor what type of faucet do you see?

I'm sure Kholer makes a gray cast iron single bowl. I tried to go with a single bowl when we did our kitchen remodel but let my mother and husband talk me out of it...dumb! I can't think of one reason to have a double bowl kitchen sink but 100s for a single bowl. LOVE your granite! Silgranites are nice but a gray cast iron would look good too.
