Need help with our dishwasher.

Our dish washer doesn't drain all the water. And it smells when standing near the sink. There is always some water left after we run it. We never use it because it's only my wife and I. We use paper plates, cups, and plastic utensils. But once a week we used to run it but stopped because of the problem not draining all the water.

Post the model number and brand of your dishwasher. The questions nerdyshopper asked also need to be answered. If you have a moment, provide a picture of what you consider water in the dishwasher. There a few on the forum who can provide the necessary guidance to help solve your problem. My first reaction is that this is an installation issue if it never worked from the beginning or an obstruction if it stopped working over time. Have you ever run a dishwasher cleaner through the unit?

I ran a dishwasher cleaner called Lemishine at the suggestion of someone here on the board. It helped a little. Fast forward, I boughtg a new Miele. The installer instructed me to NEVER use it because it will hurt the stainless interior of the dishwasher. Lesson learned. New machine, sani cycles or hotter from here on.

The installer told you not to use Lemi Shine? Well, Lemi Shine is basically citric acid - the very same ingredient that is in Miele's own dishwasher cleaner.

    Yes he did....

Of course ... Miele doesn't garner any fundage from sale of Lemi Shine.

Maybe it's the other ingredients in Lemi Shine that Miele doesn't like.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is isolated to the installer. It seems that each individual has a list of "always use" and "never use" that he/she is all too ready to share -- and not necessarily endorsed by the manufacturer.

You may well be correct. Miele offers a "concierge" installer-- basically their own in-house installers. Doing that gave me a 5 yr extended warranty. I'll check with the tech people on the phone, however in the previous 10 yrs, I never had any problem with a dirty DW interior and had no reason to use Lemi Shine. I'll go back to running a the cycle to clean the machine. Prior to using 1/2 of a Miele tablet I used Cascade as the detergent.

FYI I use white vinegar in my front loading 2006 Bosch washing machine and then run it on a sani cycle about once a month. I wipe down the door and seal after each wash and leave the door cracked open to dry out. I've never had an issue there either.

Nerdyshopper. First of all I just want to thank everyone who commented on my problem I'm having with my dishwasher. I kind of lost track of my computer during the Christmas Holidays. And I apologize for that. I don't have an air gap or a high loop in the drain hose and it always ran without a problem but here's something worth considering that popped into my mind. If my calculations are right, it might have started after I replaced the waste disposal. Could this have something to do with it?

homepro01 Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it. I apologize for the delay. My dishwasher is a Frigidaire FDB520RHBA0 Serial# TH84335330. I have never ran a cleaner through it. But I believe this all started after I replaced the waste disposal. Maybe this could be the problem.

When you replaced the disposal, was the dishwasher connected to it? If so, did you make sure to knock out the plug in the new disposal inlet and remove it completely?

Yes sir, the dishwasher was connected to it. And no, I did not knock out the plug in the new disposal inlet. I didn't even bother to look to see if there was a plug in there. I bet that's what the problem is. I will look into it first thing tomorrow after I recover from my hangover. Thanks weedmeister and Happy New Year.

I want to thank everyone for the suggestions for my dishwasher. Weedmeister, you were right. The problem was the knock-out plug. Works perfectly. Thanks again. Sorry I'm late. Forgot what website I was on.

    This is a surprisingly-common situation.
