Ceiling Fan Trouble

Long story short, our Hampton Bay 68" ceiling fan malfunctioned when it rcvd double voltage when power was restored and the generator was still connected. (we have two breaker boxes and the main switch wasn't in the off position on one of the boxes)
So now the fan will run on only one speed (medium or high maybe). Also the light doesn't work and nothing can be controlled by the remote.
Question, could the fix be as simple as replacing a capacitor or should I just pony up for a new fan?
