Office Roses

last modified: 10 years ago

At work I'm known as the "rose lady". I usually try to bring in a new bouquet every Monday and they last all week. Here are some of my recent ones:

Here you see Colorific (bright orange up front) and Boscobal as well as a bright orange-yellow dahlia and purple zinnia (also you can see Love in the upper left center)
Here you see Ambridge rose, Dames De Chenonceau (pink) Evelyn (top left) and Chicago Peace to the right. A slightly beat up Moon Stone in center.
Here is a nice one of Pink Traviata up front (my first bloom from this rose) and an unknown yellow (own root from Home Depot, not named) that has performed admirably for me, also you can see Heritage in the upper left, and Regatta (long salmon pink bud) and love to the right as well as more of my dahlia that's on its second flush since I got it.

    Love your beautiful bouquets!

Those can surely brighten up a desk! :-)

Lovely Kublah! Isn't Veteran's Honor just divine! A few days old and it still looks amazing.

Kublakan, your Veteran's Honor is definitely the star of your bouquet. SoFl, I hope to bring bouquets like yours to work someday. My roses are still young, but next season is promising.

Thank you SoFL! My other two favorite reds are Alec's Red and Black Magic. I'll have to bring some into the office to add the picture to this thread.

Jasmine, before you know it you'll be flush with roses. Just remember to take pictures and share them with us on here.

Let's keep this going...at least for this week, off to North Carolina next week.

These didn't make it to the office this morning (rain), but they will be riding shot-gun tomorrow morning.

Gold Medal, Francis Meiland, Alec's Red, Gemini, Tahitian Sunrise, Black Magic, & Melody Parfume.

Veteran's Honor, Big Purple, Gold Medal, Big Ben, California Dreamin, Pink Intuition, & St. Patrick

I think they look better today! lol

Love the Big Purple! I've never had luck with my Gold Medal and I've gone through 3 of them (one on Fortuniana) I always loose them to die back. I love this rose too!

Here's my office roses this week: front

Here you see (clockwise from bottom red) Don Juan, Double Delight (looking completely white) a side view of Ambridge rose, Dames De Chennonceau (large pink one on top) then a bright red Olympiad, a pink Belinda's Dream and Easy Does It (orange), followed by a somewhat droopy Cherry Parfait.

    Back:

From the bottom: Dick Clark (red blend) Easy Does it (2 of them here) top left is a side view of Pat Austin then a better view of Ambridge Rose.

    One last angle:

Here we see another Ambridge bloom (bottom) then a deep red Oklahoma, Pat Austin front and center (orange) with Richard's Rose below (deep pink, heavenly scent) and of course the two orange Easy Does It blooms towards the right.

This bouquet is somewhat of a Hodge-podge as I usually don't like to mix deep colors and light colors and I like to keep HT's seperate from OGRs when possible, but hey, its still pretty!! :)

Your roses are amazing, no need to buy the ones from the store when you grow this beauty at your home! I need some advise to keep mine healthy as yours!

These are all really beautiful! SoFL, you have a real knack for picking colors that look great together but are just a bit unusual and subtly different. I'm impressed.

Chinic, SoFL and I live very close to you. I live in Miramar. If ever you need help, don't be shy and ask away. Growing roses in our subtropical climate is not easy at all, but it's all doable. Let us know how we can help.

SoFL, you have to give Gold Medal another try. I bought mine at Home Depot on Fortuniana.

Thanks kublakan. I know that roses are very difficult here. You and SoFL are good rosarians. During winter mine are ok Not the best as when i get them from the store but when we have the summer mine are a disaster. I use bayers rose and flower care 3 in one and other spray but still summer still cannot get decent roses. I appreciate your help

    Thanks Ingrid!

Kublah, if I found another Gold Medal I would give it another try. I too got mine at HD on fort. I didn't plant it in the best spot however and it eventually died. I have barely any room left so next time it will have to either be potted or it will have to replace another one that's not performing well (which might be the case! I'm getting pickier and booting the wimps out of the prime spots to make room for better performers).

Chinic, a piece of advice that Geoff Cooledge (sp?) gave me this past year was to concentrate on maintaining the leaves on my roses without spurring on new growth for the summer months. His position is/was that Chili Thrips only attack new growth, so by minimizing new growth during peak Chili Thrips season you keep your roses healthier. We should organize a garden walk for this February for all of us Broward County rose nuts, lol.

SoFL, my biggest problem right now is trying to figure out what I'm going to do with all of these roses on Dr. Huey. I have all my Aldi, Breck's, and Jackson&Perkins roses in my side yard awaiting their eventual fates. Even with the surplus, thanks to Pop's Nursery and Cool Roses sale, I still HATE losing roses to die-back!!!

Oh yes Kublah!! I would absolutely love a rose walk and maybe we could do a rose trade for those of us who have some roses they want to give away or rooted roses that need good homes (which is where I fall in). I think we should definitely plan that!

I'll send a message to the Tropical Rose society to see if they want to join in. What month should we aim for doing this?

Can palm beach county come too... I would love to see other south

    florida rose gardens.

    Of course Sharon!!!

    Can I come too ;-)

Sure! The more the merrier! When's a good time. Should we do it towards the end of this month? How does it work? Do we go from garden to garden or just one at a time? Kublakahn and i live pretty close to one another so we can do both of ours in one day for sure i think.

We map it out, schedule how much time per garden, and have a starting point with a block of time to give folks time to meet up. I wonder if anyone else would be interested in participating in opening their garden.

SoFl, Lowes in West Palm has some Gold Medal right now. They are not on fort so if you still want one to pot up, maybe one of the Lowes down there has some too.

Oh dang. I just stopped by lowes yesterday but they didnt have any. They had iceberge and kardinal colorscape (not a huge fan, somewhat boring blooms). They also had a very interesting fragrant rose that had no name, but it reminded me of clotild soupert (sp?). I was tempted but they were covered in black spot so I passed. Im still a little tempted thought. Lol

Im sure Ill come accross Gold Medal at my local Home Depot soon. Its one if tge varieties that pops up there frequently. I will buy it if i find it. I doubt id be kucky enough to find it on fortuniana, but who knows. Maybe ill get lucky.
