Agree also, with the heavy furniture I think you need a heavier looking chandy.

Best light distance from bottom of fixture to island top is usually 36 inches. Close enough to light the area, and high enough that nobody very tall hits a head.It's pretty much a standard.

That one Kichler link ( Carolina post) just above while very pretty is too large a size, I fear.... 22 inches tall, the four light even taller...eeks. That Hinkley might be nice though! I would probably not do black, I would keep the "feel" of the kitchen, and the classic feel of the dining fixture. Both links on my first suggestion are proportionally sized, and the Hinkley seems a very nice proportion and fit with the feel you have going in both areas as well

top one yes - bottom one still 2 small - doesn't appear too much bigger than the ones there, but actual measurements may be needed.

I really like the bell glass option. The Hinkley looks close.

Would the larger one of the Clancy be too big? It seems like the small version would still be too 'wimpy'.

The Urban Electric is fantastic but a little pricey. Any other option besides this one to compare?

You would definitely want to measure the island as well as the space to make sure you get the right size fixture for that space. Those were just some ideas, not necessarily the correct sizes. I can help you out with the sizing if you could let me know those measurements.

To answer your question above:

1. Yes I would definitely stick with the same finish. Since they are very close in proximity its nice to have the cohesiveness of those fixtures.

2. You could do either shape. However, a lot of customers like to break up the "squareness" that comes from the table, cabinets, island, etc and go with a round/sphere fixture.

3. As stated above, this would depend on the island size and the size of the area. Ceiling heights? Island size? Room size? Since its pretty open there you can get away with a little bit larger fixture and you only have 2, instead of 3, so a larger would be nice. Also keep in mind the heaviness of the fixture, as far as the appearance goes. With an open lantern style, a little larger is best, same with glass. Drum shades or smokey glass you wouldn't want them too larger.

The island is 51 inches by 95 inches. We have 9 foot ceilings. Currently the pendants are 36 in length now with 36 inches under it currently.

Here is a picture of a 4x8 island with 13" pendants. Keep in mind that these have more mass to them since they are all metal vs a glass pendant. You could do a 16" up to a 18" wide fixture, as long as the height was proportional.

Yeah......they're pricey, but they are FANTASTIC. Not worth skipping a vacation or college education, so I get it.

We really like this one at Circa Lighting by EF Chapman but it doesn't come in a silver metal finish. The price is in a better range then the Urban Electric. Anyone know of one similar in silver?

Of the ones you mentioned, I like the sloane street shop best. Here are two other options along with the 2 you like, which I think compete with your chandelier.

The Sloane comes in antique nickel, which would be fine!!, you're in the same "family" of finishes. Go on my profile on Houzz and shoot me an email via Houzz inquiry. This is a Visual Comfort light and I believe you would need a bit of customizing to the fixture in length with additional stem. The Sloane with stem is 49 inches, ( your ceiling is nine feet) and while I have used the fixture in the brass tone, I believe I had to adjust stem in both instances I believe you will need more stem for Sloane. I can also help you with far more advantageous pricing..... : )

The other Chapman you like ( also a Visual Comfort btw.) Visual C goes in and out of production on items, appears there is stock now on the Sloane in Antique Nickel, but there can be long wait times when they go out of stock, until the next production run. Appears to be plenty of stock on the Lorford smoke bell in iron/mercury glass .
