Cabinet recommendations?

We are putting in white (painted) shaker style cabinets in our new house. Any suggestions about durable brands or materials for them? We have two young kids, so I want something durable. I'd also love something that is formaldehyde free, but that would just be an added bonus. Thank you!

there are many variables...it really gets down to the pricepoint you are working at. do you have a vendor or kitchen design place you are working with? You need to make the calculation if you will be at STOCK.... SEMI custom.... or CUSTOM which depends on how many particular idiosyncracies or demanding aspects you have to your sizes and details of cabinets......If you are definitely wedded to painted, but you have a large kitchen with lots of cabinets and want various things like inset/glass doors/etc, it will expand your budget. In a new home, many builders refer to a kitchen design place locally and they do all this detailed work with you and compose it up for your builder...you may be given a "budget"...but have the option of upgrades for example...what is going on in your process??

I have Innermost cabinets from Home Depot. They are made by Medallion, owned by Elkay. They are quite decent for the price, and I'll be using them again. If you search this forum you'll find lots of info on them.

We don't have a very large kitchen. We have a kitchen designer but I do not like the cabinets they offer (Kraftmaid, which my mother has and I hate them). We are not doing any glass doors or really fancy stuff. We may be doing stacked cabinets (10 foot ceilings) but am not sold on that yet. Budget is around $15 to 20K for kitchen cabinets. Kitchen is about 14' x 12' - no island, just a peninsula.

it would be wise to find out if the designer has another brand they offer...you don't mention any others besides the brand you dislike. Your budget for cabinets is at least adequate to get something nice beyond functional for your money, but you have to get your footing where you are happy with the process/people and products you are choosing. If it were me, with the feeling you have about KM, I would search around the area for other options, including local cabinet makers.

Hi Dreamhouse26 - Picking your kitchen cabinets is a very big decision. We understand that you aren't very fond of your mother's cabinets, but we want to let you know that we offer a variety of styles, and we're confident that we have one that fits your needs. We'd be happy to discuss your vision with you. You can chat directly with a KraftMaid designer here: http://www.kraftmaid.com/imagine/ask-designer/.

Either way, we' hope you find what you're looking for and we're excited for you to be enjoying your brand new kitchen!
