New Organic farmer, needs seeds

My name is Randy and I am starting a new organic farm. We will grow fresh, organic, heirloom varieties of produce and herbs for local sale. Due to the blessing of being offered several acres to farm and the curse of a lack of funds. I need seeds badly. I had only planned to have a plot a fraction of what I have now. I plan to plant a great diversity of vegetables and herbs so anything will be of use, but I plan to focus of course on the old standbys of things like tomatoes, peppers, beans, etc. for my first year. Sounds like you'll have quite the adventure. Suggestion: Click on Round Robin, then find the thread Adopt-A-Newbie. Post your information in that forum and someone who is zone-similar and who has extra veggie seeds will see you and probably adopt you. It's best if you offer to pay the cost of shipping. Many of us here have been growing and trading/giving away seeds for years. Also put together a list of seeds you want and post it on your page. It can be as simple as: Any heirloom veggie seed, especially for zone 6 or it can be more specific Red Pear Tomato Seeds. Latin names are nice, especially if you want something specific. Even a smattering of what you want helps people understand more about you and may offer you seeds you didn't even know existed. Don't mean to sound bossy. Welcome aboard! Heidi

Heidi gives good advice! Stick around, Randy. Join in on the newbie swaps. Check the Seed Exchange daily to see who is giving away seeds for SASE (in other words, you cover the postage and provide an envelope or bubble mailer). The longer you stick around, the more people will get to know you. You will start to acquire more seeds than you know what to do with. I highly recommend you set up your profile page, too. And if you posted a link to your FB page, I would click it ;)

Also check out the Newbie Seed Project. Val deals mostly in flowers, but I know she has a bunch of veggies right now.
