There's so much you can do there. What kind of budget do you have? Do you have to keep the furniture? Can you paint? ...

And window treatments would go a long way. I really like the idea of fabric shades like in the window seat picture above.

Or, you could place pull down shades in the windows and four thin curtain panels, like in this photo below. Place the curtain rod closer to the ceiling to make the windows look bigger, and allow a little extra length at the end of the curtains to drape over the floor to create a romantic effect.

Ceiling light not flattering to most in bedroom. Better to have a table lamp or wall sconce in each corner.

I also think you have a lot going on with the bedding and the rug. As someone else mentioned, you should consider replacing the rug, and I would also replace the bedding with something simpler.

Sometimes if a room looks plain it will make you think that you need to keep a lot of colors and/or patterns in there to make it interesting, but the opposite is true. Keeping things simple (by sticking to a single color family, for example) will make your furniture, art, and everything else in the room stand out a bit more. Using lighting to emphasize things will add to the drama. You can use molding to create more interesting walls. Find art, table lamps, rugs, etc with interesting textures- maybe a knit throw, a burlap lamp shade, and so on. It also helps to stick with a decorating style or two rather than mix and match too much, whether it is French provincial or whatever you choose.
