Back in mid September we put together a mix of unfinished vc, potting soi), native soil that's mostly hard clay with some stone fragments, and tried starting some seeds indoors in empty and rusted coffee cans. There were a few worms, <10 total, split up haphazardly between the pots. The seeds started just fine, but couldn't get enough sunlight where we had them, and died in a couple weeks. We considered the attempt a failure and the coffee cans were ignored for months... No water, no additions, no anything. The only interaction they got was being put out on the porch (where temps are already dropping near freezing) when we needed space rearranging the bedroom.

Today I found a small BBQ grill and my wife likes to use those for planters, so she grabbed the ignored coffee and went to fill the grill up with the potting soil mix. Turns out, the worms were still alive and has multiplied like crazy. From less than ten split up between four cans, there were dozens of ENC in each can. They've been busy and hungry, too. There's no unfinished vc, no potting soil, no clay left. All that was in the cans was worm casts, rust flakes, and rock.

I took half of the ENC from there and added them to my mixed composters bin cause I was wanting to increase the euros population there anyway; other half stayed in the stuff and ended up in the BBQ grill planter. I think I may sprinkle some UCG, ground egg shell, and dead leaves over the top, see if I can get them to stick around and keep on enriching what's there.

Tough worms. I hear euros are a little more fussy than red wigglers, but these guys just dgaf.
