As an alternative to creating a fully open concept, I am contemplating cutting an approximately 5 X 3 1\2 ft hole in the wall between the kitchen and family room to create some visual space, and let in some light from the kitchen.
This cut-out space could be left open or a glass wall installed (which would help keep noise from the kitchen out of the family room). I will however be losing some upper cabinet storage space, which is a sacrifice I might have to make. I have posted pictures of the two sides of the wall. Feel free to make suggestions. If you know of any online applications that can help with creating a visual, I would appreciate that too.
