I cannot imagine a township that would not allow an "in-law" type suite that would serve the purpose you need for your daughter. As long as it interconnects to the house, I don't see why it would be viewed any differently than a family room addition or master suite addition. Most towns/cities have a process for review and appeal. You would need to get your plan together and it is helpful to have an architect or someone familiar with the requirements to assist you through the process.

I am so sorry for your daughter's injury and I hope she is doing better..Also, IDK if u need to mention anything about a "rental" when getting a building permit, etc...Being this is a family member and the unit will be attached to your home, it doesn't sound like it would fall under the same restrictions. Have u already spoken with someone in the building inspector's dept?

Thank you for your responses! I took Deborah Butler's advice and called an architect familiar with our family and the town. He is going to help us work this out. He said the same thing you said, Deborah. So, we begin!
