Soil for container bulbs

So I've just bought some hyacinth, crocus, and tulip bulbs. I live in PA (zone 7a-7b). I've heard that I should have planted these bulbs in the fall but I saw them at a nursery and I couldn't say no. It's my intention to plant them in a container, lasagne style. I was wondering if a gritty mix would be ideal for planting these bulbs. It's my hope that using a gritty mix will allow the tulips to come back another year so they don't suffer from rot due to being close to the bottom of the pot.
