Question about panels, are they acceptable for a kitchen window? Or are you referring to the little ones that only go on top?

I definitely think the shades are going to make the space look complete. Now that you mentioned shades, it looks empty without them.

I think either panels or a roman shade will work. And hate the table against the window. It looks stuffed in there. The person sitting on bench really has no maneuverability and cannot appreciate the view plus it makes the light look like it's suspended in mid air with nothing to relate to it

I would swag over the light, but the existing fixture is a bit flat for the room. Then I would create a Roman shade valance for the window.

I prefer option 2. Maybe it's just me, but the light fixture seems to large for the table, which is small. Perhaps you could replace with a single pendant?

Also one tweak: I would align the chairs on an angle. I.e., put one chair under the clock & angled in the corner, align the other one across from it, move the bench accordingly. I think you have space to do this.

I like Beverly's idea of a purple Roman shade to tie in with the bench color.

It's difficult to explain, basically just rotate the seating around a bit. I should think there would be more room, not less, because you'll have the whole corner in which to move the chair in and out?

...also then nobody will have to fear getting their chair or elbow banged if someone opens the door while they are eating...

I tried moving the chairs a bit. The thing is, right now it's only 2 of us, so it's not a matter of fit. I just don't know if symmetry with the clock is more important that being right under the light. Also, the table is very small, so I agree with the statement that the light is too big

If I put the table under the light, the picture above is the only setup to avoid hitting the doors and having room to walk by

My vote is for under the light.
