Color Help Desperately Needed

The house is St. Augustine is being painted while I am still in NY waiting for our closing here. The master bedroom is painted Oriental Silk, the same color as our bedroom here in NY. (photo #2) It's a little creamier than the photo. I need to choose a color for the master bath in St. A. The painter is waiting.

The bedroom and bathroom are big. The other bedrooms are very small, but they share the 2nd bathroom. I am worried about being overwhelmed by the same color in the bathroom as in the bedroom.

We need to keep the floor and the counters. I plan to replace the lights above the mirrors and we can easily paint the cabinets and get new hardware. As you can see in the 1st photo there is some swirly stuff in the make believe marble on the tub and counters.

Should I continue the Oriental Silk in the bathroom? What color shall we do the cabinets? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Laura

We all feel better when we look good in the mirror, even if we know it's just the lighting. :) I'm in favor of colors and lights that make you feel good, whether you look in the mirror or not. I have a mix of warms and cools in my bathroom. The bulbs in my over-the-vanity fixture are soft warm incandescents (and I bought tons so that if they become obsolete I'll never run out) and they flatter as much as a 70-year-old has a right to expect first thing in the morning.

If you're unsure about a different color altogether you could always do a few shades darker than Oriental Silk just for a little contrast.

I've never felt a need for the bath to match the bedroom. I think the OS is a lovely color, but I don't think I'd want it in the bathroom. I'd go for something that is very neutral with a little warmth to it like BM hazelnut cream. I used it in my guest bath and the guest room is in a pale yellow like your br is.

It looks like those swirlies have a bit of gray and brown in them, so I'd go with either something in the silvery gray family or a toasty tan.

I read somewhere that a woman of a certain age needs to have the bathroom colors warm so she looks good in the mirror. Do I care?

Realize though that the color that looks perfect in NY might look too warm and bright in FL because the light in FL is much warmer. Just be aware if you haven't seen the colors in the FL light.

If you haven't actually seen the color on the wall in Florida, wait. The light is completely different from your previous state and the color you loved in NY may be quite unrecognizable in St. Augustine. It's a great temptation to go with something familiar but each space reflects color based on the amount and orientation (direction) of the light, as well as the other surfaces in the room and the height and color of the ceiling.
