What kind of advice are you looking for?

With the new wood double hung windows I want stain around the glass but use a light/cream colored paint on the trim. My concern is I think the windows will function better if they are stained rather than painted but I want to retain the cottage appearance that goes throughout the house but I'm not sure how to go about this. I don't know if there are design rules to follow? All of the other windows in my house are white vinyl with white trim. Thank you!

Where would the stain and paint begin/end?

Gee, I was hoping to get a glimpse of the copper painted floor in a quilt pattern. Sounds intriguing;) Can we see?

I would do the stain and trim like this;) The door and beadboard painted in the cream too.

Seeing on your website the whole room, I like what you did! Do you have any suggestions for how to treat the windows/walls? I am from Manzanita and owned a house in N. Portland on Gay St. before moving to Minnesota 30 yrs. ago.

My paternal grandmother is 1/2 Cherokee and quilted a lot so I wanted to bring into my home that part of her. Women in our family are marginalized, even by her, and I wanted to put a positive and personal touch to my house. In Minnesota the American Indian presence is pretty big, but not Cherokee.

Good for you, Beverly! I'm always telling people to incorporate their cultural heritage somewhere in their homes!
