I'm moving to a new house. The current floor is laminate

I like the juxtaposition of light floors with dark furniture. Your current floors are on the orangey side, which makes decorating difficult. Orangey flooring doesn't meld all that well with cool tones like your bedspread, but too much warm tones (like your pillow cases) and the room can read too hot, especially if south/southwest facing.

If you are moving to a new house, I think I'd want to know what the sun was like and how the house faced, before I'd make a decision, rather than based on where you live now! In our last place we were in a dark gloomy NE facing place with very little sun and the only saving, warming grace was golden (not orange) wood floors.

My general sense is that flooring should be equal to furniture color or darker, to anchor furniture. A floor that is lighter than the furniture makes everything seem to be floating away, especially with furniture like yours that was traditionally grounded.

In the same vein, a richer colored bedspread will help bring the headboard and footboard together. Bedspreads are the easiest things to make. Don't bother looking for ready made; go to a textile store and find something you adore and make it yourself. If you don't sew, it is an inexpensive job to hire out. When I lived in a northern climate of extremes, I made four counterpanes, one for each season of the year.

But back to the floor; don't forget the option of laying area carpets over your tile.

The new bedroom faces south

I have light oak flooring and dark espresso furniture. I think it looks wonderful together, very clean and bright. A friend has dark floors and dark furniture, and I think her bedroom looks gloomy and cramped, even though it is larger than mine!
