My wife insisted on porcelain vessel sinks for our remodel. I wasn't enthused, but I was wrong. Really wrong. They look fantastic, clean easily, and since they can be pulled forward further than any other style, water splashers like me keep their mess to a minimum.

Do not get the drain with the small holes in it. They often trap air between the small holes preventing the water from draining from the bowl. A finger tap operated drain will look nicer and allow for better drainage

Habitat for Humanity ReStore will take the old sink. As will salvage places.

Check with your local building department before you install, not with the supplier, they will sell you anything. Certain jurisdictions do not allow vessel sinks, there is no over flow in some models (the little hole directly opposite of faucet).
