Just another idea for over your table..

I think it would be nice if you reframed and matted the family pictures. Maybe black or silver with some nice matts.

Busy week with work and getting the boys back to college, so I took a little break from the room and Houzz. So now I am back-- and with possibly a different color combo for the pillows. I really thought I liked the navy, but living with them this week they just seemed dark next to the print pillow. So while I was out and about today I grabbed a few different ones- also ordered one pillow from Anthropologie. The lighting is terrible with camera tonight- yellow is not as bright and the teal looks much better with pillows than what it looks like in pics.(even the walls look kind of green in the pictures.
They also took the two down that were between the ramp in the fireplace. I added a curved, glass picture collage that I got for Christmas -was favorite present this year! It looks so nice either the sun shines through from the back or underneath a lamp at night.

Also, thought I would share a picture of our mudroom- think this is my favorite room in the house!!!

I really like the different textures on the pillows - good job! Im not a fan of teal personally but it certainly looks good and many people love it for good cause. The room looks great. Are u gonna keep the painting, thats in the packaging on the wall. It was a cheapie from Home Goods right? If so I say take the packaging off and keep it, I like it.

I love the pillows! I like the teal much more than the navy.

Maggys- still looking for something else possibly for over near the pub table to replace the cheapie Home Goods one:). Just lazy and haven't returned it so it's safer just hanging up on the wall.

Pillows look really nice and I like that wall between the lamp and fireplace without art. I think I'd move one of the vases that are currently on the side tables. One is nice but both are overkill.

While I like the picture collage, I don't like the way it hides the lamp base. I think that new lamp was such a nice addition, but not it's hidden.

Gosh still not sold on the pillows..I feel like they belong on a slipcovered cottage sofa...I would just for the heck of it try something a little more transitional...bolder geometric patteren..nothing with flowers...your sectional has a much more transitional feel to it...I really love what you have done with your room it has really transformed.

Ann-i agree about pic covering lamp- just moved it did to try it because I really don't have any place to put it and I absolutely love it. All pics of me my boys, and husband. Like I mentioned it is curved glass and really looks so much better when light shines through it. I will try to find another place for it. :(

Zzmom- I do understand what you're saying and as much as I am trying to like something geometrical and more transitional nothing really hits me- and I have looked on Etsy, Wayfair, WE, C&B, Ballards, Birch Lane. For some reason I just really like this pillow – and all the different colors in the pillow. Pillows are so easy to interchange so one of these days I will hopefully see one with some geometric shapes and will grab them.

Sorry the cool new gift didn't work in that spot amhers104. I really like it but it would be a shame to cover the new lamp like that.

Also, I think we have decided that we do not want the clock above the mantle. The picture that is there now is one that I do love and probably because it has a lot of sentimental value to me. So I think we are going to keep it there – at least for now. I know it is not probably the perfect size but i think it is ok. We will lower the picture – a lot of people have made that suggestion.
I also got a new antique finish metallic vase and flowers at C & B. Posting pics – one is filled with Forsythia flowers. The other one is filled with Sombawa grass, some "curvy wood things" - The sales girl said that they were very popular right now so I figured I would try them too and return the ones that I don't like. What do people think? Also posting original vase that I had there.

Have you ever considered having a local workroom make pillows for your couch. I would suggest a slightly bigger size than what you are finding retail.They may cost a little more but you won't be constantly replacing hem. A good fabric should last for years. Have a nice coordinating color welt/ trim and of course zippers added. A local showroom should have lots of nice choices.

You love the picture and it has sentimental value to you. Two excellent reasons to keep it in a prominent spot! I would suggest though, that you consider getting it reframed. A simple white mat, a plain black frame would update it nicely.

I like the new vase on the right, as pictured in the first picture (with the wood grass?) But, I'd leave the left side of the art bare. The item over on the left right now is kind of too similar to the vase and wood grass on the right. Try to avoid getting too many vases in the room. Choose one or two of the best ones and return the others. So, maybe one vase up there and your other favorite one on one of the tables in the furniture grouping.

I too, like the dark mat on your art and the vase on the right mantel. How about putting the curved glass photos on the left of the mantel? BTW...at first I wanted to add art to the two on the right of the FP but it does look really nice with no art there. It makes the FP art and accessories more special without the competition. I think the big blank wall behind your accent chairs is the perfect spot to put your photos, art and clock in an artistic arrangement.

Natalie's photo a while back gave a great example of mixing the clock, art, photos, etc on a wall. Since you have the clock and several pieces of art and family photos, I think consolidating those pieces on one wall will make a nice, artistic impact.

Has anyone suggested a light Aqua color on walls then navy accents. I hope you pulled out carpet from sofa so that it is more balanced, it should be only 2-3 inches under couch.

Paint the walls BM Gray Owl. Keep it light and airy but sophisticated.

Like the ottoman, will look better with metal tray on it, try pottery barn pillows

@ Darzy. I too like the dark blue mat. The color mat really looks great with blues from sky and water and the gold frame complements the coloring of the towers and the sand. This is a landmark in RI and has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was a little girl.

What do people think of maybe candle stick on mantle. First one is one that I have had – used to be one of the ones on the shelf in the bay window. The second one is a blue colored glass one I picked up at C & B.

Here's some ideas. I think you need to add shorter-horizontal items.

Maybe you could try some of the accessories you have in your mudroom. :))

I like the candlestick too if it was 1/3 shorter or so. I'd like the art, vase and left object be three different heights.

The third arrangement is the best of these but I like the asymmetrical and uncluttered look of just the single vase on one side the best.

Ok- so back to the pillows. Although I really do personally like the printed floral/paisley pillows that I have, a few have said that I should look around for more updated geometrical pillows. I have seen many, but none that have really hit me. Today when I was out I saw these – just so happen to go with the solid pillows that I already have so I decided to grab them to see how they looked. As people already know that have been following this post, I definitely tend to like the greens, teals and yellows. So here they are. Interested to see what people think? My yellow/teal/blue and cream colored ones, which I think for me will be easier to decorate b/c i have more choices of accent colors to work with, or the geometric pattern ones.

I, too, like the floral ones, but these new geometric ones are quite nice!

Try the geometric lumbar with the floral pillows.

Try the floral and geometric together with the dark blue.

I tend to be a very "matchy" person and don't do well mixing different prints. Just don't think they go well together. And to me the navy blue does not look good at all with the geometric teal, gray, green and cream pillow.

Since you are actually in the room, you can see the colors much better, But I like the dark blue, geo and floral best of all the combos.

I think your sofa needs bolder, high contrast pillows(could even use some black in the mix). The sectional and rug have this somewhat plain, washed out look to them, so a jolt of energy in the pillows is needed.

Last pillow post is the best combination so far.

Gather the pillows, close your eyes and toss the pillows on the sofa in the general direction of where you want pillows. Things are looking too staged. Make it easy, keep only the pillows you love and have a free for all.

I have never seen such a dilemma about pillows, lol. It's a good point why you can have your pillows fabricated when the sofa upholstery and window treatments are made.
There are many Houzzers who enjoy posting photos of pillows. How do you know what you're buying online?
Pillows aren't that expensive to have fabricated. You can even just have the front done in a nice fabric and a plain,linen or silk on the back, depending on the price per yard.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. hehehe. I think both pillow arrangements look very nice so I'd put it to a family vote. But, I think I like this one best (it's a close call). Don't worry about blues not matching. Different shades of a color in a room is more interesting.
