I really like both so I use both...there's no right or wrong. I do prefer horizontal if I want a more modern look.

Thank you for the response. So if I use vertical in a toilet room then I can use horizontal in the stairwell and mudroom? In the past I preferred to be consistent with the look in the house- but I notice that some rooms may look better with vertical - i.e.: toilet rooms. Thoughts? Thx!
