Same with me 1 to 4. Saw 5 once. I'd like to see a photograph

I spoke with this homeowner, and after looking more, I think it may be something genetically wrong, or a virus because they have some others like this:

Something obviously went wrong with these photos. If anyone knows what this might be, please advise. I told them I'd try to find out here.

I can take more detailed photos if needed. (it's raining here now, so it will be later)

wow! I have never seen anything like that. I would hope that pruning you can increase branching but unless I'm missing something it looks like branching is natural. again, wow. BTW, my plants 1-4 branches

The homeowner told me that all of their plumeria are from that larger tree, and they said it is a fragrant white/pink. They said they had never seen the strange growths on them before. I did not notice the growths on the large tree, but that branching is amazing!

Do they bloom as well when they branch that much?

I have had this happen to a few plants. I removed all but three because I found multiples do not grow as well and they did flower.

These nice people said that they did not bloom this last year. I also noticed that the large one didn't have leaves until very late into the summer.

I like three branches, two is acceptable but I'm not crazy about four. As to the photo, never seen anything like it. WAG, result of cold weather? LB

In my past experience the more branches a plumeria has the less likely it is to bloom. Growing up my parents used to let the new branches grow out a bit and then cut off any extras leaving just 3 and just stick the new cutting in the ground. This seemed to allow the branches to keep blooming. I have one right now that had 6 claws start after the last bloom, but only two are really growing. Others seem to of stalled so will chop off if they don't start to grow.

Perhaps someone knows what caused this.
